Residents in Styal are celebrating a major road-safety improvement after the speed limit on Station Road was officially reduced to 30mph on the 27th October.

Station Road previously operated under the national speed limit despite other roads entering the village, Hollin Lane and Styal Road, being 30mph. The change follows persistent campaigning by Styal Parish Council, which raised concerns with Cheshire East Council about the safety of local school children who cross the road to use the train service for their daily journey to and from school. Councillors and residents argued the speed of passing traffic posed a significant risk.
Parish councillors welcomed the new restriction, saying it reflects the community’s long-standing call for measures that better protect young people and make the road safer for everyone.

The reduction of the speed limit represents a successful outcome of local advocacy. It demonstrates the effectiveness of community-led engagement in addressing safety issues and securing improvements for residents.
The new 30mph limit is now in force from the junction with Styal Road to Styal Golf Club, a positive and necessary response to long-standing safety concerns.
