Styal Neighbourhood Plan Vision Statement
For Styal to continue to be a desirable and attractive rural village in which to live,
supporting a high quality of life for residents. Styal will remain a ‘Green Lung’ between
South Manchester, Manchester Airport and other nearby urban areas providing
accessible recreation and leisure opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The
unique characteristics of Styal, including our special heritage offer, will be conserved,
enhanced and promoted to ensure the distinctive historic and rural character of the
village is maintained whilst evolving in a way that reflects our views and meets our
needs to provide community facilities and allow complementary businesses to thrive.
The Styal Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) was adopted in March 2025 following a
local referendum. The NDP was developed by Styal Parish Council through a process of
consultation with the residents and other stakeholders as required under The Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012.
The NDP, together with the associated Design Guidelines document, reflect the views of the residents, identify the key characteristics of Styal Village and provide guidance on how these should be protected and enhanced. All planning applications within the parish boundary have to take in to account this guidance. The document Styal's Natural Environment is an assessment of the parish carried out by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust and this identifies areas of distinctive habitat and wildlife corridors in Styal.
