Styal Parish Council

Putting the people of Styal first

Styal is a parish only 9 miles from the centre of Manchester, located just south of the third largest Airport in the country and adjoining the busy towns of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge. Despite this Styal sits in the Cheshire countryside and is a "Green Lung" providing accessible recreation and leisure opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

Our history dates back to well before 1780 but it was in 1784 that a mill was erected on the River Bollin and that Mill, in its significantly extended form, went on to provide work for many of the Styal inhabitants until it ceased production in 1959. Over the years a School, Chapels and shops were added; amazingly all such are still in place and active, which contributes to the unique atmosphere of Styal. The short rows of two storied dwellings, with cosy alleyways separating them, are still thriving today and house many of our residents as part of the National Trust Quarry Bank Estate.

Styal Parish Council was established in 2011 and there are 7 councillors representing the interests of the residents.
